Rome is where the heart is…

27 Aug

We visited Rome for the first time last year and fell in love with the city, the people, and of course, the food! Italy is a fantastic place to travel to if you’re a vegetarian. Here’s a list of my favorite places:

Ditirambo – I had the cheesy potato gratin with truffle oil. It tasted a lot like homemade potato chips covered in cheese and truffle oil:

Da Sergio - The meal was great and they had ricotta chocolate pie on the menu, which I love:

Campo de’ Fiori – where they combined my love of cheese, potato, and pizza into one heavenly slice:

And I’ve saved the best for last:

Dar Poeta. This is probably my favorite restaurant in the entire world. We ate there three times during our visit, showing up right when they opened so we could grab a table outside. Tacky Americans. Here’s what we enjoyed:

House red, tomtato, basil and mozzarella salad, and bruschetta with gorgonzola and honey:

And of course, the pizza…my God, the pizza:

And for dessert, a nutella calzone:

Honorable mentions:

Margutta - vegetarian Italian food. We enjoyed going to a buffet and not having to ask “is there meat in this?”

Da Baffetto - great pizza, but not as special as our beloved Dar Poeta.
